Finding the Unicorn

Things to consider when you have interviewed the perfect candidate but thinking about seeing others.

Dear Hiring Manager,

We hear it often:

“This is the perfect candidate, but we’d like to see a few more!”

While it's important to explore all options, we believe it's essential to consider the potential risks associated with continuing the search:

Time Constraint:

The perfect candidate might not remain on the market for long, given their impressive skills and qualifications. Delaying the decision could result in the loss of a highly valuable addition to your team.

Candidate's Impression:

Reaching out to other candidates after interviewing the ideal fit may give the impression that you are indecisive or uncertain about what we're looking for, potentially disengaging the perfect candidate from the opportunity.

Efficiency:

Interviewing multiple candidates consumes valuable time and resources. The perfect candidate's skills align so well with your requirements and culture that further interviews with others may prove to be unnecessary.

Limited Candidate Pool:

The current unemployment rate is very low, resulting in a reduced pool of available candidates. As a result, finding another candidate with the same level of qualifications and experience as the perfect candidate might prove challenging.

Ultimately, it might be worth giving serious consideration to extending an offer to the ‘perfect candidate’ sooner rather than later, to secure their commitment and avoid the risk of missing out on their valuable expertise.

Unicorns are rare and other companies are reaching out to them as well!
